On sites with light to moderate brash, the Bräcke is quite capable of moving brash material and planting. Conditions found in UK restock sites are generally much more difficult to work than restock sites in Scandinavia - the home of the Bräcke. The amount of brash is much greater and it tends to be springier making it more difficult to move, particularly when freshly cut.
Under heavier brash conditions the mounding blade on the Bräcke can be used to rake the brash into piles and the cleared areas in between these piles planted. This can be a time consuming operation and does not always provide a uniform placement of planting spots on the site.
An alternative method, known as the Cawdor Technique, has been developed which provides several benefits to both contractor and forest manager - including the ability to work on freshly felled sites. Information on the Cawdor Technique is available on our downloads page. |
