We work directly with a company called Forest Carbon which exists to bring private and public sector organisations together with landowners to create new woodlands. This enables companies to work towards the aims of their Corporate Social Responsibility programmes by offsetting unavoidable carbon emissions caused by economic activity - as well as create woodlands simply because they are valuable assets to society.

Forest Carbon operates as a “match-maker”, bringing together companies  wishing to carry out woodland planting but who do not have suitable land, with landowners who have the land but do not have the cash resources required.

The “match” can be on the basis of Carbon-Credits and a legally binding contract being drawn up to protect both parties and which can be produced as evidence of the amount of carbon locked up in the new woodland.

Alternatively, the “match” can simply be one where a company gains publicity for it’s actions by providing funding to enable the woodland to be established. This funding, which Forest Carbon have termed, Green Key Sponsorship,  may be the entire sum required or be a supplement to available grants which on their own would not be sufficient. In this case there is a much more informal agreement with the landowner and the sponsoring company does not lay claim to any of the carbon that the new woodland will come to hold.
