  • Product Description

Grey alder, or Alnus incana, is a huge deciduous tree that is native to Europe but is now widely found in Britain. It is valued for its benefits to wildlife and its ability to withstand unfavourable growth circumstances.
Shiny ovate leaves and yellow-brown, pollinator-attracting catkins appear in February, and are followed by the distinctive, long-lasting, hard, green fruits that provide food for birds over the winter.

It is a fast-growing, medium-sized, deciduous tree with a conical habit.  Reaching a mature height of 12m, this hardy tree copes well in wet cold conditions. Often planted to create shelter from the wind, the Grey alder is ideal in medium to large gardens and coastal sites.
