Growing naturally on sand dunes and along coastlines, Sea buckthorn is a very beautiful tall suckering plant. It has a long season of fascination, with masses of eye-catching orange berries on female plants in autumn and narrow, silvery leaves that stay on the bushes into the winter. It is an invaluable shelter belt for other plants during coastal gales and sea spray because of its resilience.

This shrub is rather difficult to miss; it may reach a height of 6 metres and bears fuzzy leaves with a striking grey tone in addition to bright orange oval berries. On the other hand, sea buckthorn blossoms are more delicate and occur from March to May.

It is ideal to grow sea buckthorn in late February or between October and November. This shrub does best in sandy, airy soils that lean slightly acidic or alkaline. To increase aeration, while planting, incorporate at least one-third sand into heavy soils. You will need less sand the lighter the soil.
