Blue Spruce Tree (Picea Pungens Glauca)

Blue Spruce (Picea pungens 'Glauca') is a much sought after conifer tree and popular Christmas tree, valued for striking blue green needles that hold their colour for longer than traditional Norway Spruce when watered regularly. This hardy spruce tree thrives on most fertile, moisture retaining, free draining soils, including exposed upland locations, and forms a dense, pyramidal habit that becomes more columnar with age. Slow growing but long lived, Blue Spruce is drought tolerant once established and copes well with exposed or windy sites. In UK gardens, Blue Spruce typically reaches around 30m in height, though exceptional specimens in its native Rocky Mountains can grow considerably taller.
