The Cherry Plum tree (Prunus Cerasifera) is one of the first broadleaf trees to flower in the UK, producing masses of white blossom in late winter and early spring before the leaves emerge. A versatile and resilient tree that grows in most soil types and tolerates both sun and light shade, Cherry Plum trees can be grown as a standalone specimen or pruned into an attractive fruiting hedge. Yellow and red cherry-like fruits develop after flowering, attracting birds and other wildlife, while the early blossom provides a valuable nectar source for bees when little else is in flower. Naturally bushy in habit, the Cherry Plum tree responds well to pruning, generally required every two to three years, and can reach up to 8m in height.

Fairly wind resistant and frost tolerant, Cherry Plum trees are a reliable choice for a wide range of garden and landscape settings, including more exposed sites.

Attractive to birds and suitable for harvesting to make jams and jellies, the fruits give Cherry Plum trees practical value beyond their ornamental appeal, making them a rewarding choice for productive garden and wildlife planting schemes.
