The Red Oak tree (Quercus Rubra) is a fast-growing deciduous broadleaf oak tree native to North America, widely planted in the UK for its spectacular autumn colour. Large, deeply lobed leaves turn a rich, vivid red before falling in autumn, giving this oak tree its distinctive name and making it one of the most visually striking ornamental trees available. Red Oak trees develop a broad, rounded crown and can reach up to 25 metres in height. Thriving in full sun with plenty of space, Red Oak trees prefer moist but well-drained soil and can tolerate clay, urban pollution, and high winds.

With strong, deep roots and a resilience to urban conditions, Red Oak trees are a practical long-term choice for parks, streets, estates, and large garden planting schemes.

Spring catkins provide early pollen for bees and insects, while the acorns, which take two years to ripen, attract birds and small mammals and provide a seasonal food source in autumn.
