Noble Fir Tree (Abies Nobilis)

Noble Fir (Abies nobilis) is a hardy evergreen conifer tree, valued among fir trees for its excellent frost resistance and ability to cope with exposed sites. Noble Fir grows best on fresh to moist mineral soils in a sheltered to moderately exposed position, and while it tolerates more wind and cold than species such as Douglas fir and Grand Fir, it establishes best with full sun or partial shade. Growth can be slow in the early years but speeds up considerably once established, eventually producing a tall, stately conifer tree. Left to mature, Noble Fir can reach up to 45 metres in height, making it a valuable species for forest diversification as well as large scale ornamental planting.

More frost resistant than many other fir trees, Noble Fir is a reliable choice for cooler, more exposed sites where other conifers may struggle to establish.

Once established, Noble Fir grows into an impressive, long lived conifer tree, valued both for ornamental planting and increasingly for forestry diversification schemes.
