Sobus Aria, or whitebeam, grows well in chalk, dry limestone, and acidic soils. Autumn leaves turn golden with red berries that, when overripe, can be turned into a jelly to be eaten with venison. Springtime leaves are silvery/white. In May, scented flowers bloom. Originally from southeast England, it is a very compact, bushy European tree. Usually, it grows naturally in soils that are rich in lime, particularly chalk. In June, the large oval leaves with a white backing are beautiful trees for any garden!
