The Whitebeam tree (Sorbus Aria) is a compact, domed native broadleaf tree and one of the most sought-after trees with white flowers for UK gardens, prized for its ornamental value throughout the year. Clusters of scented white blooms appear in May, attracting pollinating insects, followed by scarlet berries in late summer and autumn that are a favourite food source for garden birds. The large, oval leaves open with a striking silvery-white appearance in spring before deepening to dark green through summer, then turning a rich russet before falling in autumn. Drought resistant and suitable for coastal sites, Whitebeam trees grow in full sun or partial shade and reach up to 20m in height.

Well suited to chalk and limestone soils where many other ornamental trees may struggle, Whitebeam trees are a practical and attractive choice for gardens, parks, and roadside planting schemes.

With distinctive ornamental interest across every season, from spring blossom and silvery foliage through to autumn berries and russet colour, Whitebeam trees are a rewarding low-maintenance choice for gardens and landscape planting of any scale.
