Goat Willow

Salix caprea

Native throughout the British Isles, it forms a small many-stemmed shrubby tree which grows to no more than 50ft (15m)

It colonises waste ground particularly in damp places.

It flowers early and provides the bees with both pollen and nectar when few other flowers are open.

Commonly known as 'Pussy willow' the male catkins are used to decorate churches on Palm Sunday.
