Bay Willow

Salix pentandra

Native to northern Europe and found growing in Northern Britain, Bay Willow forms an attractive small to medium-sized tree with glossy twigs and attractive, lustrous, bay-like leaves that are pleasantly aromatic. Male trees produce yellow catkins and female trees produce green catkins although it is impossible to tell the gender of the tree until it is mature.  Like most willows, the Bay willow thrives in wet, boggy areas where other trees can struggle.
