Common Privet (Ligustrum vulgare)

A big shrub with semi-evergreen leaves that is equally useful as a hedge as the more common oval-leaved privet. Wild Privet will grow in most soils, except very wet conditions, and does especially well on chalk. It is resistant to wind and thrives on coastal sites. Quick-growing, it won't flower or bear fruit, but if cut frequently, it will form a lovely dense hedge.

The size of each plant is between 15 – 50cm in height from the root plug.

  • Product Description

Privet hedge plants (Ligustrum ovalifolium) are distinguished by their masses of exquisite white flowers that bloom in the summer and draw bees and butterflies. They are also recognised for their rich, oval-shaped green leaves. Ligustrum ovalifolium is a semi-evergreen hedge that, once established, is mostly always evergreen, though it can lose some leaves in the winter.

Planting Privet hedging is well-liked because of its dense foliage, which is ideal for urban or suburban gardens and provides privacy as well as pollution protection when grown as a formal hedge. With the exception of extremely damp locations, this sturdy shrub grows well in most environments and at a rate of about 30 centimetres each year. Privet grows well along the coast, yet in the winter it may lose some of its leaves.
